I am currently helping with the planning of an exhibit on wedding gowns
and bridal traditions at a county historical museum (which isn't online).
The gowns the museum has date as far back as 1850 and some of them are in
pretty bad condition, a few even look shredded in areas. Needless to say, not
all of the gowns will be displayed in the exhibit, though the director had
thought of showing one of the damaged gowns in a case to address the issue of
conservation.

At some point, the museum would like to bring in a conservator to look at
the gowns and make some suggestions, but I don't know that this will happen
before the exhibit opens in May. I wondered if anyone might be able to
share some experiences or at least some references that might be
helpful in the displaying, repairing and storing of these delicate gowns.

Thanks in advance,

Cheri
