As a Yank, I am appalled that a "colleague" would consider such an ill advised
treatment of any object. Especially after the recent discussion on this list
concerning our professional obligations to the collections under our care.
Perhaps it is worth repeating that the American Instiitute for the Conservation
of Historic and Artistic works is alive and well and can be contacted by phone,
in writing or via e-mail.
