Three job announcements for positions at the Japanese American National
Museum is Los Angeles, CA follow; the positions are Manager of Human
Resources and Volunteers, Facilities Project Manager, and Director of
Administration/Deputy Director.

I. MANAGER OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND VOLUNTEERS

Full-Time Position, Immediate Opening

The Japanese American National Museum is the first museum in the United
States expressly dedicated to sharing the experience of Americans of
Japanese ancestry.  The Museum opened to the public in May 1992 and its
programs, events, activities, and audiences have steadily increased.  The
Museum currently seeks a full-time Manager to direct and manage the Human
Resources functions and the Volunteer Program . The position reports to the
Director of Administration.

Responsibilities:
* Directs & manages all aspects of the Human Resources functions, including
employment, training, compensation, employee benefits, employee relations,
substance abuse, and personnel records.
* Directs & manages volunteer recruitment/selection, orientation/training,
placement, retention,  recognition, counseling, and communications in
conjunction with volunteer committees.
* Is the Training Coordinator for all orientation & training of staff and
volunteers.
* Manages support staff in the areas of volunteer schedules/records and
staff personnel records.

Qualifications:
1)  Bachelors degree in human resources, management, or business/public
administration;
2)  Minimum three years experience as a human resources manager or senior
professional, with
knowledge of basic labor laws, benefit programs and/or training designs and
evaluations;
3)  Experience with managing volunteers or strong experience as a volunteer
with nonprofits;
4)  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to counsel and communicate
one-to-one and in groups;
5)  Experience in or strong personal orientation to providing excellent
customer service;
6)  Basic computer skills, including use of database and spreadsheet
software programs;
7)  Ability to work on weekends.

II. FACILITIES PROJECT MANAGER

New Full-Time Position, Immediate Opening

The Japanese American National Museum is the first museum in the United
States expressly dedicated to sharing the broad geographic experiences of
Americans of Japanese ancestry.  The Museum currently seeks a full-time
Facilities Project Manager as the Museum's prime representative during the
design and construction of the Museum's 80,000 Gross Square Foot Phase II
Pavilion scheduled to begin immediately, and to remain as a permanent staff
member overseeing the facilities operations once the Pavilion is open to
the public.

Responsibilities:
As the Museum's prime representative on the Phase II design/construction
team, the duties are:
*  Providing detailed inputs to the architectural and engineering design
team regarding systems choices, specifications, and other design issues
related to functionality and costs.  Inputs based on requirements provided
by the Museum staff, Facilities Committee, and own museum experience.
*  Assisting in financial projections and other funding issues, such as
funding opportunities.
* Monitoring progress of the project related to schedule, cost, and quality
through regular meetings with the team, Facilities Committee, and Executive
Committee.
*  Reporting of status of the project to the Board of Trustees, staff , and
key volunteers.
*  Providing staff support to the Facilities Committee.
*  Transferring technical knowledge about the Pavilion to maintenance and
operations personnel.

Experience Required:
*  Prior museum experience performing similar tasks of comparable project
size for institutional users is essential.
*  Experience in project management, budget development, and cost/schedule
monitoring required.
* A strong understanding of the Museum's mission, goals, programs and
overall operations to coordinate staff and Board requirements is most
beneficial.
*  Knowledge of and experience with the latest information technologies
(Internet, multi-media, and satellite broadcasting), in terms of
requirements from a facilities design point of view, is a plus.

III. DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION/DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Full-Time Position, Immediate Opening

The Japanese American National Museum is the first museum in the United
States expressly dedicated to sharing the experiences of Americans of
Japanese ancestry.  The Museum currently seeks a full-time Director of
Administration to serve as its Deputy Director to direct and manage all
administrative and support functions of the Museum, including
strategic/long range planning, policies & procedures, and insurance
matters.  Direct reports are in finance/investments, human resources and
volunteers, construction/space planning, production and publications,
business ventures, and facilities/security.   The position reports to the
Executive Director & President.

Responsibilities:
* Provides administrative support to the Executive Director and departments
by developing strategic/long range plans and formal policies/procedures,
and directing/managing support and operational services provided by the
reporting functions in the areas listed above.
* With the Controller, oversees short-term investments and budget &
financial reporting, including analyses of variances, cash flow,
comparisons, trends, etc.
*  With the Human Resources & Volunteer Manager, ensures compliance with
laws/regulations, and meeting the Museum's needs for staff and the use of
valuable volunteers. A strong focus is on recruitment,
orientation/training, customer service, recognition, and communications.
* Assists or directly serves in staff role to: Board Committees (Executive
Committee, Budget/Finance, Investment, Audit, and Long Range Planning); and
the President's Council.

Qualifications:
(1) Minimum 10 years in management with increasing responsibilities in
administration  managing financial, human resources/volunteer, planning,
and operational/support functions.
(2) Minimum of Bachelors degree in management, administration or comparable
education. Education/training equivalent to bachelors/masters program in
museum management preferred.
(3) Strong knowledge/experience in planning, finances, human resources, and
leadership.
(4) Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate/counsel
one-to-one and in groups.
(5) Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.  Basic computer
skills.
