The message below is posted on behalf of the Southeastern Library
Network (SOLINET).
Does your organization have mold or pest troubles? Attend our
upcoming SOLINET preservation workshops and learn how to tackle
these difficult problems. On Monday, January 29th, 1996, the
Miami-Dade Public Library will host two half-day workshops,
ATTACK OF THE GIANT MOLD SPORE and TO FUME OR NOT TO FUME.
(For those who will not be able to attend on the 29th, SOLINET
will host these same workshops on Friday, March 1st, at our
Atlanta office -- contact our offices for further information.)
ATTACK OF THE GIANT MOLD SPORE: Simple, Safe Techniques to
Recover from a Mold Outbreak. This workshop focuses on what mold
is, why typical treatments and cleaning efforts don't work, and
how to avoid the problem. Several approaches to cleaning mold
will be covered.
TO FUME OR NOT TO FUME: Alternative Fumigation Techniques for
Museums, Libraries and Archives. This workshop provides a
general introduction to fumigation, including common chemical
fumigation techniques; impact of chemical fumigation on
collections, pests and people; good reasons to avoid chemical
fumigation; and a discussion of several alternatives to chemical
fumigation.
The workshop on mold will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, with the
workshop on fumigation taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. Conducting
both workshops will be Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director of Chicora
Foundation.
The cost for both sessions is $85 for SOLINET members and $150
for non-members. The cost of a single session is $60 for SOLINET
members and $90 for non-members. (Any institution within Florida
qualifies for the member rate.) A $10 discount is offered for
registrations received three weeks prior to the course date.
For further information or to register, please contact Steve
Eberhardt at 1-800-999-8558 ext 285.
