Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum

(full-time, exempt position)


The Astronomy Department of the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum is
seeking an experienced Educator to develop, coordinate and implement
family, public and group programs including performances, workshops, family
visit programs, gallery activities, members/family overnights, and a
tri-institutional summer camp.  This position reports to the Manager of
Education.

Duties are developing and implementing a coordinated annual roster of
public/family programs, including recruiting teachers and working with
scientists using the project management system.  Other duties are working
with the Membership Manager and other educators to develop family overnight
activities; planning for the expansion of the overnight program; working
with the Group Sales Coordinator and other educators on the Girl Scout
program; coordinating the Adler portion of the tri-institutional summer
camp; performing demonstrations and assisting with special events; and
acting as educator on exhibit and Sky Show development teams.  This
position will intermittently supervise 12 - 15 teachers annually, 3 or more
volunteers, and will oversee 450 children, 12 counselors, 3 teachers, and
volunteers during summer camp.

A BA in education, science education, museum education, science or a
related field is required.  An MA in education or museum education is
preferred.  Three to five years proven experience with planning and
implementing public/family programs in a museum or planetarium is required.
Strong organization and presentation skills, computer experience, and
experience with formative evaluation for development of  visitor
experiences is also required.
