I have not made DIGITAL images from old large format lantern slides, but
any reasonable 35mm SLR camera set up will produce excellent standard
colour transparencies from the back-lit projected image (eg. through a
masked-down illuminated slide viewing table) - I hve done this with
historic lantern slides for decades.

Presumably there would be no problem in using single frame mode on a
suitable video camera, or you could use 35mm negative film and have this
processed in Kodak CD format - which most newer graphics software
packages now support.

(Apologies to the List if someone has already made this suggestion 100 or
200 items further on down my Christmas & New Year backlog of incoming
e-mail!!).
