Hello,
I wanted to announce, and hopefully get feedback on, a new multimedia
exhibition "catalog" on our WWW site. The show we have put online is an
exhibition of Drawings by Louise Bourgeois which just opened here.
This online adaptation includes a multimedia image/audio "catalog" of the
exhibition. The artist was interviewed in her home over the last two years
about these drawings. Bourgeois's own audio commentary accompanies over 60
of the 130 drawings in this exhibition (all online). Her audio commentary,
as well as her playful rap song, "Otte", is available online in the
RealAudio format. This project was enabled in part by a software grant by
Progressive Networks, the makers of RealAudio.
In the future, full "catalogs" or online presentations of exhibitions may
take online form via SGML, and the multimedia in standardized forms other
than RealAudio. But we wanted to make the experiment now of creating a more
comprehensive online presentation of an exhibition which takes advantage of
the new media, as well as educating and engaging the widest possible
audience in the subject. What do you think?
