I agree that there is substance to this line of thought.  1.  The
cultural climate today is family (traditional or whatever) that the hippy
and yuppie culture did not include.  2.  The other is that research shows
that the social aspect of a museum visit is a primary motivation for
going and a strong factor in the type of learning that takes place.

It dosen't seem that museums should take the role of social worker;
however, it does seem plausable that we take advantage of the cultural
popularity of family life and use it to guide how we present programs
and exhibits.

This may also give new status to our collections which took a hit in the
last cultural trend.
