Museum-L readers may be interested in fellowships given jointly by Hagley
Museum and Library, and Winter Museum, Garden, and Library, at
Wilmington, Delaware.  The announcement of recent recipients is
illustrative of projects supported.  It is followed by general
information about the focus of the grants, and the contact address for
further information.

Hagley Museum & Library and Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library are
pleased to announce the recipients of the Hagley-Winterthur Fellowships
in Art and Industries for 1996:

        "The Ideal House:  Mail-Order Architecture and Consumer Culture,
         1918-1930"

Nancy Owen
Northwestern University

        "Culture and Consumption:  Rookwood Pottery, 1876-1917"

Amy Richter
New York University

        "Gender Aboard:  Femininity and Modernity on the American Railroad,
        1865-1920"

Pamela Simpson
Washington & Lee University

        "Cheap, Quick, and Easy:  Imitative Architectural Materials,
         1870-1930"


The Hagley-Winterthur Fellowships in Arts and Industries are awarded
jointly by the Hagley Museum and Library and the Winterthur Museum,
Garden and Library.  These fellowships are designed for scholars
interested in the historical and cultural relationships between economic
life and the arts, including design, architecture, crafts, and the fine
arts.  The stipends support research in the collections.
