Donor stated value is a useful designation, especially if you were ever to
have to deal with capitalization of the collections (shudder). It is the
value stated by the donor for any gift as it enters the collection. It can
be different from your insurance value (which probably bears some
resemblance to 'market value') and it is different from appraised value
(which can be different from insurance value).

Another thing that is helpful to track is the history of the value - who
said its value increased from 600,000 to 1,200,000 - when did they say it
and why? These are all value associated fields that are useful.
(sometimes values go down as well as up and its useful to keep a log of
value history.
