Many people see the Web as only a form of publishing, like a catalog,
rather than a tool to create the catalog (and the museum). That's a
holdover from the desktop publishing revolution of the '80s being kept
alive by companies such as Adobe and Microsoft. If you are a member of
this list you are using the Internet (of which the Web is one aspect) to
do your work and probably have found many other uses for e-mail. You may
have found useful material from searching Gopher and Web sites and your
institution may even have discovered (like many big corporations) that
Web servers can make excellent communication systems that keep your
staff in touch with each other without being connected to the Internet.

Look at how people actually use the technology and what practical
benefits have been shown within the museum already. Public access to a
museum Web site may not even be what you need.
