Hello!

I found the attached on a Commerce Business Daily solicitation list and
thought it would be of interest to some - re: historic murals and post
offices being placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

==============================================================
Issue_Date[ 12-04-95 ]

< DOT/Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, 55 Broadway,
Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA 02142

< 99 -- PROFESSIONAL RESTORATION/CONSERVATION OF UNITED STATES
POSTAL SERVICE MURALS IN ALLEGHENY (OH/PA) AREA SOL
DTRS57-95-Q-80046 POC Orin D. Cook, Contracting Officer, (617)
494-2593. The Volpe Center intends to issue a Request for Quotation
(RFQ) under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures for the
Restoration/Conservation of United States Postal Service Murals in
the Allegheny (OH/PA) area. Many of those post offices where
artwork was placed are over fifty years of age and the unique
combination of architecture, art, and internal design make them
eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. This also
makes the facilities subject to the National Historic Preservation
Act. Phase I of the project has been completed during which
qualified art conservators assessed the condition of the existing
murals and produced individual Mural Treatment Reports. This
requirement is for Phase II of the project, in which a qualified
conservator(s) will perform the conservation/restoration on six (6)
of the murals as described in the individual Mural Treatment
Reports at the following sites in the Allegheny area: Ada, Oh;
Belle Vernon, PA; Muncy, PA; Renovo, PA; Tunkhannock, PA; and
Quakertown, PA. The conservator will also include, as required,
backup personnel who are able to help with any lead abatement
during conservation/restoration of particular murals. The scope of
work and general requirements will be issued with the RFQ. The
estimated date of issue of the RFQ is 12/20/95. See Numbered
Note(s): 1. (0334)
