The government of Ontario announced yesterday, November 29th, that the Ontario
Agricultural Museum at Milton would be closed permanently as of May 1997.
Twelve staff were given lay-off notices effective May 1996, with the remaining
staff put on notice for May 1997.  Apparently, the Ministerial staff making the
announcement were unable to say what would happen to the large and significant
collection of artifacts, archival materials and historic buildings.  That aspect
of the closure had not been considered as of yet.
