Dear Yoshihiro Takemi:

Greetings from the Association of Youth Museums in Washington, DC. Some
resources that you might be interested in:
1. Museums, Magic and Children by Bonnie Pitman gives an excellent overview
on children's museums. It can be ordered through the Association of Science
and Technology Centers, 1025 Vermont Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC
 20005, (202) 783-7200 phone, (202) 783-7207 fax.
2. Organizing Your Museum: The Essentials by the American Association of
Museums gives general information on starting a museum, such as information
on bylaws, job descriptions and budgets. The contact information for AAM is
AAM, Publications Department, 1225 Eye St., NW Suite 200, Washington, DC
 20005, (202) 289-1818 phone, (202) 289-6578 fax.
3. Interim Resource Guide for Start Up Youth Museums--AYM is in the process
fo developing a Start Up Guide and it will be available in the Fall of 1996.
In the meantime, we have an Interim Guide available containing information
gathered at the Start Up Preconference held last May.

If you would e-mail me your regular address, I would send you information on
our association, as well as the index to our quarterly journal and
information about our 1996 conference.

Also, I would highly recommend visited as many children's museums as possible
during this planning stage. Each museum is very different because each
museum has different educational needs of their community to fulfill. If you
are planning a trip, I could help you with the itinerary so as to maximize
your time.

Please let me know if you have any other other questions.

Sincerely,
Mary Clancy Haack
Association Assistant
