As a graduate student also soon to be on the job market, I've also been
told to go look at Peterson's Guide to Internships. I found it to be
pretty much a waste of time and money. The list of museum internships was
less than comprehensive, left out several large and well known internship
programs (such as the Getty's and Chicago Institute of Art for example) and
skipped over internship
possibilities at smaller museums entirely. My advice: it's not worth the
money, maybe worth browsing through if you can find it at the library. In
fact I haven't found any purported guides to internships particularly
useful including those devoted exclusively to the arts. I'm beginning to
think I should write a guide to internships myself rather than trying to
get one. :)
