The Illinois State Museum is seeking assistance with a project to develop an
interactive history exhibit on the Internet. "At Home in the Heartland
On-line" is an electronic exhibit that focuses on the theme of making
choices and offers many innovative approaches to involve the visitor in
meeting people of many cultures from the past and sharing their lives at a
time when they are making a decision. The theme of decision making addresses
a fundamental human activity that involves cultural values, creativity, and
resource management. Much of the research for the exhibit was funded by the
National Endowment for the Humanities and private sector sponsors through
the support of the physical exhibit at the Illinois State Museum that opened
in November 1992.

We would prefer to work with someone who has classroom teaching experience
at any grade level from 3 to 12, but would prefer experience with the lower
grades in this range. Experience with computers and an interest in the
Internet is preferred.

Job will entail liaison work with classroom teachers to integrate curriculum
needs with museum resources and writing of grade specific text and
activities for grades 3 through 12. Curriculum development experience would
be helpful. Educator will work as part of a team that will also include a
computer consultant, curators, a graphic artist, and other educators.

Position is full-time for 1 year starting January 2, 1996. Competitive
fringe benefits and salary. EEO. If you would like to be part of this
innovative project, please contact: Jan Wass, Illinois State Museum, Spring
& Edwards Streets, Springfield, IL 62706. E-mail: [log in to unmask]

This position opening at the Illinois State Museum is in addition to the one
announced last week that was recruiting for an educator to work in the
sciences on an Internet project.
