Reynolda House Museum of American Art will host a multidisciplinary conference,
"Cultural Responses to Colonialism," April 26 and 27, 1996. The conference
coordinator welcomes papers that explore the art, music, literature or
cultural institutions of any postcolonial society. Possible subjects
include the negotiation of gaps between worlds; marginality as a source of
creative energy; retrieval of repressed histories, languages, or imagery;
and appropriation and juxtaposition of disparate voices or icons. Themes
may appear in portraits, landscapes, poetry, popular music, folklore,
museums, architecture, etc.
DEADLINE: Send a one-page abstract and a brief curriculum vitae by November
22, 1995, to Dr. Gloria Fitzgibbon, coordinator of academic affairs at the
museum.
