When I worked at the American Indian Program, we were approached by the
National Postal Museum who wanted to produce a commemorative stamp featuring
a Northwest Coast picture. I am fuzzy on the details, either they wanted the
totempole image, or the entire image was either a painting or photograph ( I
believe the latter ). Anyway, you may want to call them and ask their curator
how they handle similar situations to what you are describing. Good luck.
