Some users of the list Museum-L are posting requests about collections
documentation and management softwares. I would like to inform you that the
Info-Muse Network in Quebec, which is operated by the provincial association of
museums, La Societe des musees quebecois, and works in collaboration with CHIN,
carried out in 1993-1994 an in-depth analysis of 24 applications developped by
different companies around the world. Even though the results consider mainly
Quebec museums needs, and reflect the reality of the products as they were over
one year ago (which can be a lot considering the fast-paced developments in the
field of data processing), the reports could be useful for the methodology of
the analysis and the criteria used. Two reports, each presenting a different
part of the analysis, are available to anyone who's interested (because la
Societe des musees quebecois is a non profit organization, the documents are
sold at a price covering only photocopies, handling and shipping). The reports
are already available in french and, with the support of CHIN, will be available
in english shortly.

First report, French title :
La gestion automatisee des collections : analyse d'applications
informatiques pour les musees quebecois

First report, English title :
Automated Collections Management : Analysis of Computer
Applications for Quebec Museums

Final report, French title :
Adaptation d'une application informatique pour les institutions quebecoises :
devis, analyse des soumissions, consultation des clients, conclusions et
recommandations

Final report, English title :
Customizing a computer application for Quebec museums : tendering document,
analysis of proposals, customer survey, conclusions and recommendations.
