Position description: The MIT Museum is seeking an experienced museum
educator to work on a consultant basis 15 hours per week with its
curatorial staff to design, plan, implement and evaluate educational
programs and materials for K-12 and adult audiences and the MIT
community. Responsibilities include audience development, especially
outreach to Boston, Cambridge and local schools, youth organizations and
community centers; working with collections, curatorial and exhibitions

educational publications and multimedia applications); and scheduling
tours and programs.

Qualifications: Candidates for the position of education coordinator

implementing and overseeing programs around the themes of architecture,
naval architecture and maritime history, holography, mathematics, the
history of science and technology, and the intersection of art, science
and technology. They should also have experience in museum education
and program coordination; strong written, verbal and interpersonal
skills; and proven consulting experience. A graduate degree is
required.

The MIT Museum: The Museum was founded in 1971 to collect and preserve
materials and artifacts connected with the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and to use these materials to illuminate the intellectual,
educational and social history of the Institute, especially MIT's role
in the history of modern science and technology. The Museum's
collections are an unparalleled resource for the study of the history of
American science, technology, architecture, engineering, and the
influence of those disciplines on society. The Museum's educational
facilities include MathSpace, a walk-in, hands-on mathematics activity
room where children and adults can work with a variety of colorful
materials to create their own geometric constructs, and a new holography
laboratory.
