Four years ago I visited a perfume bottle museum in La Rochelle,
France. It was an olfactory / visual experience that I haven't forgotten;
not only because of my particular interest in glass art and design, but
because of the rich depth and patina of the museum's sweet odor and the
setting, one of the most beautiful harbors in the world.
Upstairs, the collection of thousands of bottles. Downstairs, a gift shop
where you could enjoy many of those scents...
That is as close to a 'museum' of scent as I've been able to find
although I've seen and sampled many museum exhibits about the olfactory
sense (smelled many a malodorous display, as well, that supposedly had
nothing to do with the nose) and been in many gardens that have had
exhibits about botanical scents.
