At the our museum we increased the "membership rates" about 60%.  We
instituted a new category for fixed income people (students, seniors, and
anyone else who self defines themselves as fixed income).  This rate is $15
per year.  The most signififacnt aspect of this was that we asked people to
"consider donations" which would  result in "membership benefits."  This was
successfully communicated by personalized letters sent out to our 1600
members.
