Probably not what you need, but
the photohst list ([log in to unmask]) deals with the aesthetic
and, to some extent, the technology of photography.  It is, however,
primarily concerned with these topics in the history of photography.  If
you are interested in modern cameras and projectors (like is x better
than y) this list is not appropriate.
There are several usenet groups under rec.photo.x that would probably be
good for x/y comparisons and the like.  The only one I read, however, is
rec.photo.moderated which is very technical and is directed to the
advanced amateur/professional.
