A revised version of my list of Navy, Army, Marines and Air-Force
Museums in Britain is now available, either on the WWW or for retrieval
by anonymous ftp. The current revision was completed in March '95 but
access has been delayed for technical reasons. It now lists 223 museums,
collections of militaria and sites of historical military interest, with
their addresses, new UK telephone & fax numbers and very brief
descriptions of the exhibits. It is a single large file: 107482 bytes of
ascii text (not html hypertext).
The list has been made available through the kindness of Dr Glen Segell
of the Department of War Studies at King's College London, University
of London.
Its 150 pages can be browsed or retrieved on the WWW via:
http://remote56.dialup.kcl.ac.uk/ftp_docs/museums
To retrieve the file by anonymous ftp:
ftp remote56.dialup.kcl.ac.uk
Name: anonymous
Password: give your e-mail address
(set file type binary - may be needed in some cases)
cd pub
get british-military-museums
Please note that the August 1994 version that may still be found in
mailbase.ac.uk is now superceded and should be ignored. It will be
deleted soon.
Comments, corrections and suggestions for additions/deletions will be
most welcome. Hoping that you all find the list useful,
