For two parallel study projects concerning education programs for adults
in museums (by the U.S. Dept. of Education's Office of Educational
Research and Improvement and the American Association of Museums), I am
collecting interesting program summaries about unusual or unusually
successful museum education programs for visitors and participants over
approximately age 20. Especially of interest are programs designed for
distinctive or nontraditional audiences and community-based programs or
collaborative programs in cooperation with community groups, public
libraries, social centers, etc. Also of particular interest are on-going
educational programs which serve a continuing audience (eg. seminars,
series) and those in which the adult learners take an active role in
program development or content.

Any thoughts are most welcome about: 1) the selection of target
audience(s), 2) assessment of educational needs in the community, 3)
evaluation of and criteria for program success, 4) best practices for
institutional collaboration, and 5) factors standing in the way of
providing programs and reaching potential learners. Respnses preferred by
March 15, 1995.
