Don't forget John Ruskin and Victor Hugo. I'd even throw Thoreau
in the bunch, he illusrated his journals.
 
Then there is the whole Situationist International movement in
Europe from 1957-1972, particularly Guy Debord.
 
And, of course, Vasari.
