2 part-time Museum Information Technology Officers
Academic-related Research Staff Grade 1A
Salary #13,941 - #20,952 pro rata for 20 hour week
 
Recent recurrent funding from the University has enabled the Museums of
Oxford University to create an IT structure which meets the demand of the
individual museums and yet works within an overall framework. Two half-time
established posts have been created, one at the Oxford University Museum, with
special responsbility for developing that Museum's collections databases,
and the other at the Pitt Rivers Museum with special responsibility
for the management of electronic collections data in that Museum.
 
Both postholders will be available, when necessary, to offer support to other
of the University's Museums, working in conjunction with the Museums' IT
Manager based at the Ashmolean Museum.
 
Specific details follow, and the closing date for applications to both posts
is 18th November, 1994 and it is hoped that interviews will be held on 1st and
2nd December.
 
 
Pitt Rivers Museum IT Officer
 
The Museum is looking for someone with a degree in Anthropology or an
equivalent background in anthropology or museum ethnography, and a degree or
demonstrable expertise in IT. The person must show an interest in working in
one or more of the following areas: material culture, art, ethnomusicology
and visual anthropology, and have demonstrated awareness of the issues of
cataloguing and data management relevant to museum collections. The person
should be aware of current developments in multimedia and should be familiar
with Macintosh and IBM systems. The person will play a major role in
implementing the Museum's IT Strategy. The person appointed will also be
expected to liase with the Computing Office of the School of Anthropology.

Oxford University Museum IT Officer
 
The OUM IT Officer will provide general support for Macintosh and IBM-compatible
computers and networking, and will have particular responsibility for
advising on and developing specimen databases in consultation with
curatorial staff.
 
Applicants should be graduates with Information Technology training and
demonstrable recent experience of developing museum or similar
documentation systems.
