Please help me publicize a new source of small grants for work in the area
of Latin American art (contemporary, non-US).

I'm hoping that anyone with information to share on scholars, institutions,
galleries (US or foreign) or artists will at least make themselves known
to the foundation.

Thank you in advance for your help.

THE ROBERT GUMBINER FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS
LATIN AMERICAN ART PROJECT

The Robert Gumbiner Foundation for the Arts is a private, nonprofit,
educational foundation providing support to arts organizations, scholars and
artists. Among the Gumbiner Foundation's major areas of concentration is a
new, intensive effort to support research, publications and exhibitions related
to contemporary Latin American art produced outside the United States.

For 1994-95, this support will be manifested in three project areas:

Grant Program:
Grants of $1,000 to $5,000 (most at the lower end of this range) are available
to nonprofit (501c.3) organizations planning exhibitions or publications, and to
individuals engaged in significant research
projects, related to contemporary Latin American regional art. A one-
page letter outlining the project, timeline and costs will normally be
sufficient as an application; further information will be requested by
the Foundation if needed. Ten to twenty such grants will be made in
1994; THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF 1994 APPLICATIONS IS
DECEMBER 1.  1995 applications will be reviewed quarterly;
deadlines are February 15, May 15, August 15 and November 15.

International Symposium on Contemporary Latin American Art:
In cooperation with the California State University, the Gumbiner
Foundation will sponsor its first International Symposium on
Contemporary Latin American Art in Spring 1995. A modest
honorarium, travel and housing will be provided to participating
scholars. Scholars interested in presenting papers should contact
the Foundation immediately by telephone, fax, e-mail or regular mail;
the Foundation will respond promptly. Those interested in attending
the symposium should mail, fax or e-mail a request for information
the symposium should mail, fax or e-mail a request for information
(please do not telephone) to the foundation; announcements will be
sent when details are available.

Resource Directory on Contemporary Latin American Art:
The Gumbiner Foundation is assembling a directory of scholars,
institutions, dealers and other resources in contemporary Latin
American art.  The directory will be available at the Foundation office;
if interest is sufficient, it will be published and made available at a
nominal cost.

Any information on such resources will be gratefully received and acknowledged.
