We have a number of wood and glass cases that were built for the museum
around the turn of the century. The wood has faux graining which may be
vinegar painting topped with some type of varnish or shellac. The surface
is dull in places and almost sticky here and there. Is there some safe way
to clean these without disturbing the graining? There are some relatively
hidden areas I can experiment on, but before I go through stacks of Old
House Journals I thought I'd ask around.
Thanks for your help.
