Regarding testing, the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI), 1030 Innes
Road, Ottawa Ontario K1A 0C8,  does much testing of materials and publishes
their findings in CCI notes (French and English, combined) and Technical
Bulletins( available free of charge).  They can be reached by tel:
 613-998-3721 or fax 613-998-4721.  I don't believe they receive any funding
from the U.S. govt. or institutions, so I am careful when taking up their
time.
