This query is to our museum colleague in public relations,
marketing and advertising:
We are hoping to find out about other organization's
staffing and reporting relationships within these
departments, their responsibilities, and budgets (for those
willing to confidentially share this type info.).
We're hoping to find out how we compare and see if there are
any processes we could improve on -- sort of like a "best
practices" visit. For ease, I'd be more than happy to call
the appropriate person at their convenience.
Some ideas as fuel -- who does/how do you organize?:
PR/media relations, promotions/special events, collateral
publications (annual report, newsletters, brochures),
marketing, advertising, govt. public affairs, use of
contractors/interns/volunteers, community relations,
internal relations, new audience development, group sales,
couponing, direct mail, donations, speaker's bureau, ad
production/design/buying, etc., etc.
Thanks in advance for your help!

FYI: The Academy includes a natural history museum,
aquarium, and planetarium all under one roof, with eight
research departments working furiously away behind the
scenes.
