I would say that prospective museum professionals get no
particular sort of indoctrination. As you have seen on this
list, there are very few professional training programs for
museum people. Those programs that exist do not function
with a unified curriculum, as far as I know, or a unified
perspective. As a museum worker for more than a dozen years
(with an MBA from a program focusing on Arts Administration)
, I have a pretty strong sense of how I view museums' roles,
but I think that they are not necessarily in line with
others in the field.
I have two questions, for you: first, is "musea" an accepted
term. I have seen it here on this list, but almost nowhere
else. Second, I hadn't heard that the holocaust museum was
troubled. In what way? All I had heard about was their
smashing critical and popular success...
