The HARVARD UNIVERSITY ART MUSEUMS are seeking candidates for the position
of  Curator of Photography. The job description follows:
 
An endowed curatorial position responsible for distinguished teaching
collection of over 6000 photographs, with special strengths in Ben Shahn,
Diane Arbus, Aaron Siskind, Ansel Adams, 19th-century and contemporary
photographers. Responsible for proper care, documentation, research,
presentation, publication, growth of the photograph collection. Makes
recommendations on and oversees the conservation of photographs. Recommends
purchases and solicits gifts for collection, overseeing expenditures from a
$750,000 acquisitions endowment. Conducts research on the collection,
publishes results and maintains collection records. Organizes and
supervises installation of exhibitions of photographs in the museums.
Assumes an active role in soliciting funds for museum-wide and departmental
purposes, including acquisitions, exhibitions, conservation, and
publications, from individuals, foundations, corporations and federal
agencies. Works closely with other curators in executing a dynamic,
intelligent program, and works with faculty in Harvard's Departments of
=46ine Arts and Visual and Environmental Studies. Requirements: Ph.D. in art
history or equivalent scholarship demonstrated in publications; minimum 6
years progressively responsible curatorial experience; demonstrated record
of scholarship and achievement in the field; administrative, managerial
experience; demonstrated written, oral communication skills. Demonstrated
competence in 2 European languages; ability to deal effectively with
