Maritime museums are by their very nature international in character.
On the Great Lakes we are affected by Scottish traditions and one
heck of a lot of technology transfer - leading in the end to
designs adapted for local use. When Queen's University at Kingston
extended to us the use of their mainframe system for our
Collections and Marine Information Data Bases we found ourselves
marketing the "intellectual" resources of the museum eg library, archives etc
via the internet. The internet has been directly responsible for
bringing in more students and researchers - so there is one very
positive result.
