Those following this thread might be interested in an upcoming
conference, "Slavery in the age of Washington". A brochure I have says:
"The Mount Vernon Ladies' Assn. is hosting a conference on George
Washington's role as a slave owner, a topic that has escaped acute
analysis by biographers and ... scholars. The conference will be held on
Nov. 3 and 4, 1994 at...Mount Vernon. Formal papers will be presented on
the first day of the conference, while the second day will include a
panel discussion on interpreting slavery at historic sites followed by a
tour exploring the African-American community at Mount Vernon.
Participants will include Lorena Walsh and Christy Coleman from Colonial
Williamsburg.For more info. the number is: (703) 780-2000, ext. 303 .
