Local newspapers covered local events/politics, with a healthy of
material pulled from other publications.
 
There were a number of weekly and monthly publications.  You will find
interesting information in:
 
<Niles' Weekly Register>; <The Democratic Review>; <Hunt's Merchants'
Magazine and Commercial Review>; <Stryker's American Register and
Magazine>; and <The American Register: or General Repository of History,
Politics, and Science>.
 
Generally, these show up as bound annual editions in research libraries.
 
There were many others; those noted above are just a sampling.
