Just to introduce another element in this discussion, I've
been thinking about forwarded messages. Sometimes a person
responds to another colleague instead of to the whole list.
Others may have asked to have messages on a topice of interest
to them forwarded. The responder to the original query, however,
may not intend for his or her private message to be sent futher.
Perhaps one should indicate this in a message if that is the
case, but I think it probably just doesn't occur to the poster.
So, to get back to citations, how do you cite forwarded messages?
