Here in the Southwest, there has recently been a debate over Juan Bautista de
Anza, with the final resolution that Anza is the correct usage (the founder of
San Francisco).
   The best name game in California is that of the explorer Juan Rodriguez
Cabrillo. New evidence points to the fact that his name was actually just Juan
Rodriguez and Cabrillo was a nickname (the Little Goat as in "horny"). This
has come as quite a shock to Cabrillo National Monument, Cabrillo College, and
the Portuguese who had claimed him as one of their own (Juan Rodriguez was
Spanish).
