Using the Art and Architecture Thesaurus for documenting Objects and
Textual Materials

You are invited to participate in a workshop on the use of the Art
and Architecture Thesaurus for the documentation and retrieval of
objects and textual materials in museums, libraries and special
collections. This is an opportunity to do hands-on exercises using
both the print and electronic editions of the expanded AAT Second
Edition. In addition, the Union List of Artist Names (ULAN) will be
introduced in the workshops. Participants to the workshop will
receive a copy of the new publication the Guide to Indexing and
Cataloging with the Art and Architecture Thesaurus.
Workshop No. 1: Using the Art and Architecture Thesaurus for Object
Documentation - October 17, 1994, The Hospitality Inn, Portsmouth
This workshop is for those who catalog and document collections of
objects and who have some familiarity with issues of automated
collections management and authority files.

Workshop No.2: Using the Art and Architecture Thesaurus for
documenting Objects and Textual Materials - October 19, 1994,
Victoria & Albert Museum, London
This workshop is for those who catalog collections of objects and
those who catalog textual materials, and will include discussion of
subject analysis, the role of thesauri, the use of AAT in the MARC
format, as well as issues of automated collections management and
authority files. Participants will be able to use the electronic
edition of the Art and Architecture Thesaurus to build complex terms
and indexing strings.
