Discussions on museum resources being available on commercial services
surface over and over again on Museum-L. The current discussion and past
discussions have caused me to form my own tv analogy. If you consider
museum resources "programs/shows", it seems to me that some would prefer
to have all their favorite programs on the same channel, let's say PBS.
The logic behind this seems to be that it is too inconvenient to change
channels (dial another network) or, heaven forbid, the show is airing
only on HBO... $$$.
Let's face it, you may not have to pay by the month to get "PBS", but
they fund their programming through a yearly pledge drive... so does the
"Internet"... it's called income tax. And people who don't access the
Internet, or even know what it is have to pay for it so that we can
access it's resources for free.
