PROGRAM MANAGER, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ISSUES & POLICY

The Getty Art History Information Program (AHIP) seeks to
improve access to research information in the visual arts
through the use of computer automation. In collaboration with
domestic and international institutions and organizations,
AHIP develops products that meet the emerging research needs
of art historians and initiates and supports programs in four
              major areas: issues and policy; standards and resources;
research database projects; and technical development and
              research.

Reporting to the Director of the Art History Information
Program (a position currently held by an Acting Director),
the Program Manager, Information Technology Issues and Policy
will address information issues of importance to AHIP's
mission by formulating and implementing strategic plans
aimed at shaping policy within the arena of art historical
and humanities computing. S/he will represent AHIP
information technology activities and interests to other
Trust programs and to national and international
organizations. S/he will serve as a consulting resource for
the AHIP Director, Program Managers and their staff on
technical issues relating to their projects. S/he will
assist with evaluation of new projects or changes
in current project direction and with planning and
managing computer projects. S/he will formulate steps toward
the intellectual integration of humanities databases.

The Program Manager should be a seasoned professional with a
significant background in policy level management and data
base projects for the humanities. A high level of proficiency
with diverse and sophisticated technologies including data
communications is important. An interest in the history of
art and/or the related humanities would be highly desirable. An
advanced degree or an equivalent combination of coursework,
training and experience is required with preference given to
candidates with advanced degrees in information or computer
              science.
