The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian
Institution, Washington D.C., seek applicants for the following positions:
 
 
MUSEUM CURATOR, SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN ART
        Develops the galleries' collections, plans exhibitions, and conducts
original research.  Qualified applicants will have extensive knowledge of
South and Southeast Asian art history equivalent to the Ph.D. level; skill
in conducting scholarly research that considers topics which result in
published materials.  Knowledge of one or more South or Southeast Asian
languages is required.  Federal civil service position with benefits.
Salary $49,947-$76,733 per year commensurate with experience.  Appl.

CONSERVATOR
        Objects Conservator:  Performs duties that support the conservation,
research, and exhibition activities of the galleries: examining and
conserving works of art in the galleries' collection, which include objects
composed of glass, ceramics, metals, stone, lacquer, and wood; preparing
object condition reports; conducting tests of object materials; developing
and implementing treatment proposals and plans; preparing documentation
related to conservation activities.  Qualified candidates will have
knowledge of techniques, materials, and methodologies related to the
conservation of works of art; the ability to conduct research and to write
technical and non-technical materials.  Special consideration will be given
to experience in the conservation of archaeological and historic glass and
ceramics.  Federal civil service position with benefits.  Salary
$28,964-$45,561 per year commensurate with experience.  Appl. deadline:

DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
        Manages the galleries' fund raising activities and secures private
financial support for programs and special events from national and
international corporations, foundations, and individuals.  Formulates master
and annual development plans and fund raising strategies; negotiates donor
support at the executive level.  Qualified candidates will have a knowledge
of national and international philanthropic sources and the ability to
develop successful fund raising programs that generate financial support
from a variety of donor sources.  Federal civil service position (4-year
term) with benefits.  Salary $59,022-$76,733 per year commensurate with
