Arizona State Museum
The University of Arizona
 
        The Arizona State Museum Registrar is responsible for maintenance
of the Museum-wide manual and computerized registration system,
collections records, insurance, accessioning of new acquisitions,
documentation of loans, packing and shipping, and curation of the Museum's
sound recording archive.  The Registrar is also expected to maintain an
awareness of collections-related legal and ethical issues, participate in
formulation of museum policy and procedures regarding collections, and to
provide expertise on Museum adherence to professional standards in
collections transactions and care.  The Registrar is a part of the
Collections Division staff, reports directly to the Curator of
Collections, and works closely with the conservator and collections
curators for archaeological, ethnological, photographic and
archives/manuscript collections.  The Registrar also interacts with
exhibit and research staff who maintain, borrow or loan collections.  The
Registrar provides services to staff, researchers and the general public.
 
        The Arizona State Museum is a unit of the University of Arizona.
Its research, collections, and programs focus on the past and present
native populations of Arizona and adjacent states in the United States and
Mexico.  The Museum is active in archaeological field research and serves
as a repository for archaeological collections.  Collections include
150,000 catalogued ethnological, and archaeological artifacts, 13,000
cubic feet of archaeological research collections, 200,000 photographic
items, 800 sound recordings and an extensive archive of original field
notes and personal papers.  Collections management is computer assisted.
The Museum is accredited by the American Association of Museum.
 
        The Museum Registrar holds a classified staff position in the
University personnel system, and the job is continuous throughout the
fiscal year.  The salary range is $25,328 to $26,500 plus excellent
benefits.  Minimum qualifications for the position are a Master's Degree
in museum studies or a closely related field and one year of experience in
a registrar or collections management capacity; or an equivalent
combination of experience and education.  Desired qualifications are
Southwestern anthropology and material culture, experience and education
in computers, and an interest in and awareness of developments in museum
collections care and documentations.
