MUSEUM ANTHROPOLOGY CALL FOR PAPERS

Articles and shorter essays are sought for a special issue of
MUSEUM ANTHROPOLOGY devoted to the outsider's critique of the
anthropology museum. MUSEUM ANTHROPOLOGY is the journal of the
Council for Museum Anthropology, and a unit publication of the
American Anthropological Association.

Tentatively entitled "Monitiring the Halls: Irreverent Visions
of Museum Anthropology," this issue will explore the cr}|cal
perspectives of those who comment upon museum anthropology from
the outside, such as Cherokee artist and author Jimmie Durham,
conceptual artist James Luna, African-American installation
artist Fred Wilson, and performanceartists Guillermo Gomez-Pena
and Coco Fusco, among others. What are these artists telling us
about the craft of museum anthropology? Who is their message
intended for? Who is listening? Are they justified in what they
say? Whutdoes their message tell us about the relationship
between art museums and anthropology museums? Etc.

Please send article abstracts or ideas or suggestions to
