Vice President Gore has agreed to lead a day-long summit on the public
interest issues concerning the National Information Infrastructure. AAM
has been working with the coordinator of the conference, The Benton
Foundation, in the planning and outreach.
The Summit will be on March 29, 1994 in Washington, DC at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel. Invitations can be obtained by contacting the Benton
Foundation directly at 202 638-5770 or fax 202 638-5771 or e-mail
[log in to unmask] The conference is limited to 500 participants and costs $25
(primarily for the lunch).
There will be four panels of public interest leaders: NII and the Home;
NII and Daily Life (education interests will be spotlighted); NII, the
Economy and the Community; and NII and Democracy.
This will be the public interest community's best chance to question the
Administration on the future of the data superhighway and what
role nonprofits, such as museums, will play.
If you are planning on going or would like to discuss AAM's involvement in
these issues, please respond to me directly. Thanks.
