The Ontario Museums Association in cooperation with the Canadian
Heritage Information Network have been running an electronic mail and
data sharing system called TRILLIUM since 1988. With about 100
museums across Ontario as members it has become a great sussess. We
only recently aquired Internet access for the network, but even before
that there was a high traffic level. It is used for all sorts of
messages (research requests, object disposal notification, an on-line
newsletter, etc). The standing committee has held all its meetings
using the network for the last two-and-a-half years. AS you can
appreciate this has cut down costs temendously.
