Upon signing to this listserver, I had intended not to participate in
fear that my undergraduate status could be irritating to a network of
professionals-- however, after reading a few weeks' worth of
correspondance, I have changed my mind! In truth, I need some help and
this seems the best way to get it.
For a few weeks now, I have been trying to research the status of
public art (including laws/rules concerning freedom of expression and
censorship, history and development, cultural 'stricture' and
conceptions of 'public') in Singapore and in Australia. I know
Australia is a broad topic, but truly the lack of information on the
subject that I can access makes it so. I was ecstatic to notice
several letters posted from Australia and was hoping they or anyone
else with suggestions or knowledge on the subject could get back to
me.
France is the other end of my project (the goal of this research is a
Watson proposal-- a grant for a full-year's study abroad), but having
spwnt the year in Paris i am okay on that part. The choice of the
other two stemmed from recent coverage of the caning of a spray-can
weilding youth in Singapore, and realization of the lack of coverage
on non-Aboriginal art in Australia. My intent is to eventually
correlate the status of public art in all three areas-- contrast and
contradiction, reasons for, etc.
If anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.
