Catalogs are all very well, and indeed when I was working at the Franklin
Institute my boss used to keep reminding me that our purpose was to
*introduce* the subject, and interest the visitor enough so he/she would
go look in books.
However, a computer kiosk provides an immediacy that might hook the
visitor just that extra bit... as those walking-tour interpretive devices
do.
And some visitors -- dare I say it -- can't afford a catalog.
