I just joined this list and not knowing its protocol wondered if there was any
interest in making papers available for discussion--posting shorter ones to the
list, sending longer ones out on demand, or archiving them for ftp access.

Several recent postings raise issues that specially interest me and I address
them in a paper that I delivered last November at the Chicago Art Institute for
their symposium Museums, Nations, Identities. The paper is titled Destination
Museum: How Tourism Informs Museum Practice and Experience. The central
example is Plimoth Plantation.

Speaking of which, I highly recommend Stephen Snow's new book,
Performing the Pilgrims: A Study of Ethnohistorical Role-Playing at Plimoth
Plantation. My paper draws on material from the foreword that I wrote for that
book. University Press of Mississippi, 1993

I'd welcome the opportunity to continue to discuss museums and tourism.
