Back in 2020, ASHRAE published some guidelines for HVAC operation with respect to the Covid-19 virus. Granted, the understanding of the virus and the nature of the virus has been changing rapidly since then, however, they're still worth checking.

Good luck.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] HVAC Systems

Hi All,

I'm curious to find out what your institutions are doing about your HVAC systems and COVID-19. How much outside air are you bringing into your buildings? The County maintenance department services our HVAC systems. I want to be able to go to them and tell them what our needs are and if it is feasible with the units we have, which are less than 10 years old. With the exception of our archive vault, the other areas of our building don't have humidity control. Being in the California Central Valley where our summers are hot and dry, this is reflected in our less than ideal humidity rates in our building. Typically the galleries are around 30% RH during the summer months. I'd really appreciate hearing what your experiences have been with your HVAC techs as far as providing optimal airflow while keeping the collections safe.

Thanks,

Julie
